Welcome to the Food section !
As you will notice this is one of my favorite Korean topics.
When I came to Korea the first time in 1994, I didn`t know really what kind of food I had to expect.
That time it was hard to find a Korean restaurant in Belgium since there were only a few, and the nearest was located at least one hour driving from my hometown.
I was lucky to have a friend married to a Korean. Being invited by them I had the chance to try “kimchi” & “bulgogi” for the first time in my life. It was a good experience.
However, my first experience eating in Korea was not a big success. Being used to eat bread in the morning, it was really hard to eat Korean food for breakfast. My stomach couldn`t endure the spicy flavors, and it was a big problem to digest the food that I was not used to eat.
Later on I started to learn how to eat Korean Food properly with chopsticks and I learned to appreciate all the different tastes. These days I eat Korean food daily at home.
Cooking Korean food is one of my favorite things to do in my free time. I really like the tastes that make the difference with European food, like chamgireum (참기름 – sesame oil), doenjang (된장 – soy bean paste), kanjang (간장 – soy sauce), etc.
When I`m in Korea I noticed that Korean kitchen is still developing. In Europe, however, it seems that many Korean restaurants still serve Korean food in the way it was 20 years ago.
In this section I will share all kind of information about my favorite food, ingredients, recipes and restaurants.
