Seongsan Ilchulbong

SEONGSAN ILCHULBONG or Sunrise Peak is one of the most spectacular spots on JEJU island. Volcanic eruptions more than 5000 years ago created this tuf cone crater which is 600 meters wide and 99 meters tall. Because of its scientific value SEONGSAN ILCHULBONG was recognized as World Heritage in june 2007.

The way to the top of the crater is made quite accessible for tourists and offers quite spectacular viewpoints on JEJU’s coastline.

Just looking at the cobalt blue sky and turquoise ocean water makes you speechless …

Together with the many Chinese tourists (who can come to Jeju without visa), we climbed this  “fortress mountain” in less than 45 minutes.

On the way back down you can stop nearby a place where you can buy and try  fresh seafood caught by the famous haenyo.

If you visit JEJU you shouldn’t miss this remarkable place ! Unless bad weather this place is always packed with tourists. Near the entrance you can find Dongamsa, a rather small temple.
